August 2025 Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA) Compliance Update

Effective as of August 27, 2025, the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) is now in effect for both manufacturers and wholesale distributors. This law sets forth stringent requirements that must be adhered to by all entities operating within the pharmaceutical supply chain. Its primary goal is to establish robust unit-level tracking for prescription drugs throughout the supply chain, thereby protecting patients from counterfeit or illicit prescription drugs.

The DSCSA law applies to all trading partners including "dispensers," encompassing healthcare providers in various settings such as health systems, hospitals, community or specialty pharmacies, and independent community practices engaged in dispensing or administering pharmaceuticals subject to enhanced unit-level tracking as defined by the DSCSA. However, there is an exemption still in place for small dispensers: FDA Small Dispensers Exemption. Note: this exemption applies to the numbers of employees at the parent company level.

Customer Portal

MeyerSPA customers that wish to access their DSCSA information can now do so using an online portal. Customers need to complete this form to request access to the portal. Portal access will allow you to download an XML file that contains serial numbers for products that have been shipped to you.

Global Location Number (GLN)

A Global Location Number (GLN) serves as a unique identifier for business locations within the supply chain. This distinctive number, licensed by GS1 US, is assigned to pinpoint specific locations or business entities participating in the supply chain. Providing your GLN will help us set up your account properly per GS1 guidelines. If you are requesting portal access, we still ask that you provide your GLN number if possible.
