What Is Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the practice of using fragrant or aromatic extracts from a wide variety of plants, also called essential oils. When applied to the skin or inhaled, aromatherapy essential oils have been shown to improve a person’s psychological and physical wellbeing. It can be offered as a form of alternative medicine or complementary therapy.
What Are Essential Oils
Essential oils are made from flower, herb, and tree parts, like bark, roots, peels, and petals. The cells that give a plant its fragrant smell are its "essence." When an essence is extracted from a plant, it becomes an essential oil.
How to use Essential Oils
Essential oils are typically used through an essential oil diffuser or as a topical application. The oils evaporate into the air using an aromatherapy diffuser, spray, oil droplets, or are breathed in. Essential oils should never be applied directly to the skin, and should be diluted with a carrier oil like almond oil or olive oil before applying the concentration.
How Aromatherapy Works
Aromatherapy is typically used through an aromatherapy inhaler or as a topical application. When inhaled, aromatherapy activates areas in your nose called smell receptors, which send messages through your nervous system to your brain. Aromatherapy oils can also be absorbed through the skin with the use of aromatherapy massage oils and bath and skin care products.
Aromatherapy involves a holistic approach. You shouldn't use aromatherapy products instead of your regular medical treatments. But for some conditions, research shows that aromatherapy can have many health benefits including: improving quality of sleep, help relaxation, soothe pain and inflammation, relieve anxiety, depression, and stress, speed up healing, increase energy levels, boost memory, reduce headaches, and strengthen the immune system.

Waxing Hair Removal
Waxing is a popular method of removing hair from the face and body. Eyebrow waxing allows an esthetician to shape the brows into a pleasing shape. Leg waxing replaces shaving the legs and produces longer-lasting results (weeks versus days). Bikini waxing – and the even more thorough Brazilian waxing – are particularly popular during swimsuit season, creating a smooth look and eliminating any worry about stray hairs.
MeyerSPA makes it easy to stay stocked up on the supplies and equipment spa professionals need to perform body waxing, leg waxing and eyebrow waxing. We have a full range of waxes (both soft strip wax and non-strip hard wax), including the popular favorite, Cirépil Blue Wax, along with pre-wax and post-wax skin care products. For waxing accessories – from a wax warmer to bulk wax strips and more – MeyerSPA is your single-source solution.
How waxing works
Hard Wax Method
To remove hair with wax, the esthetician warms the wax in a wax warmer until it reaches a spreadable consistency. Working in manageable patches, the esthetician then uses a smooth wooden spatula (tongue depressor) to spread the wax over the portion of the body where hair removal is desired, applying a fairly thick layer against the direction of hair growth. As the wax hardens, it adheres slightly to the skin, but completely to the hair, essentially “gripping” each follicle. Once the wax has hardened sufficiently, the esthetician quickly pulls the wax off the skin in a single quick motion, which pulls the attached hair from the skin, removing it all the way down to the root.
Strip Wax Method
This method is similar to the hard wax method, but with a few differences: Strip wax is applied thinly, and in the direction of hair growth. It goes on at a lower temperature than hard wax, it is stickier, and it does not require time to cool and harden (which is why strip waxing is also known as speed waxing). Strip wax is removed by placing a strip of thin cloth over the area and pulling it away in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Because strip wax adheres to the skin more than hard wax does, it has an exfoliating property and also reduces the chance of ingrown hairs afterwards. However, if an area has to be treated more than once, care should be taken to protect the skin with a barrier of oil or powder to prevent irritation.
